What should you check before a dyno tune?
The better the vehicle is prepared before it goes on the dyno, the more time can be spent tuning instead of diagnosing basic mechanical problems. Before your booking, it is worth checking the following:
- No known fuel, oil, coolant or boost leaks
- Fresh or serviceable spark plugs with an appropriate gap for the application
- Healthy ignition coils and leads where applicable
- Correct fuel in the tank for the tune you want
- A fuel system capable of supporting the intended power level
- Cooling fans and cooling system operating correctly
- Tyres, driveline and wheel bearings in safe condition
- No unresolved engine warning lights, sensor faults or wiring problems
If you already know the car has an issue, tell us before the booking. It is usually much easier to plan for it than discover it halfway through a dyno session.
What happens during a dyno tuning session?
The exact process depends on the ECU, engine and vehicle, but a proper calibration generally starts with checking the setup and making sure the ECU is receiving reliable information from the sensors it depends on.
From there we can work through areas such as fuel delivery, ignition timing, throttle response, boost control and other ECU strategies where applicable. The goal is to build a calibration that suits the complete combination rather than simply adjusting one full-throttle run.
For modified cars, the tune also needs to match the hardware. Injectors, fuel pressure, turbocharger, intercooler, exhaust, intake, boost control hardware and engine condition can all affect what the ECU needs and what the combination can safely achieve.

Is a dyno tune only for high-power cars?
No. A dyno is useful anywhere accurate, repeatable load testing helps us understand how the engine and ECU are behaving. That can include naturally aspirated street cars, turbocharged builds, engine conversions and dedicated competition cars.
A well-sorted street car may benefit more from clean drivability, stable temperatures, predictable boost control and consistent air-fuel control than from chasing the largest possible peak number.
What if the car has a mechanical or wiring problem?
A tune cannot compensate for a failing fuel system, unreliable sensor signal, boost leak, ignition problem or poor wiring. If a fault appears during the session, the right approach is to identify it rather than tune around it.
